A 10-part faith-based blog series: Week 3

I used to think that once I moved to this new city I was dreaming about, I found someone to love me, or I finally scored that job I’d been dreaming of that I’d finally feel satisfied.

I’ve moved to plenty of new cities, I’ve been happily married and happily single, and I love what I do and yet I have still felt unsatisfied at times.

C.S. Lewis said, "If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world."

I believe we will never be fully content on this side of heaven. We will always feel like something is missing and that we’re lacking something, because we are.

I also believe that we can find a degree of contentment and peace on this earth completely outside of life circumstances. We can be satisfied with what God gives us, including the peace and strength He offers freely.

Contentment isn't pretending everything is perfect.

It's choosing to trust God in every circumstance knowing that He is enough to satisfy.

Philippians 4:12-13, “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

Do you find yourself longing or dreaming for something that God is not providing? Are you trusting God in the waiting?

What do you think God is doing in the waiting? He’s not sitting around waiting for you to do something. God actively works while we wait and trust. This act of trust builds perseverance and steadfastness we wouldn’t have otherwise.

What is God calling you to right now? Is He calling you to step out in faith in some way? Do you trust that He really will provide everything you need…always?

Challenge for this week: Name 3 ways God has been faithful to you in the past as a reminder that He will continue to show up in the future.

If contentment is a big struggle for you, especially in regards to your relationship status feel free to reach out. We can work together to help you get closer to that contentment in Jesus.
