Living on Mission

A 10-part faith-based blog series: Week 8
God has given every believer a calling. Single or married, family or not, young or old, we all have a calling and a purpose on this earth.
Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
What are your good works? Have you asked God what His specific, unique purpose is for you right now?
Marriage isn't the prerequisite to living on a mission. Can it be helpful and supportive? Absolutely. Is it required, absolutely not.
Singleness allows the freedom to actively pursue all God has for you right now with fewer distractions.
I don’t believe in calling singleness a “season of life.” Not many want to hear this, but it might not be just a “season.” There is no guarantee that anyone will be married or that the marriage won’t end in death or divorce way before you thought it would.
Calling singleness a “season” makes it seem like it’s something to muster through until you get to the next and commonly thought “better season” of being in a relationship.
I believe that singleness is a part of who we are, but it doesn’t have to be our entire identity.
That being said, what is God calling you to do right now in your singleness?
What spiritual gifts has God given that you can lead in? Where is He calling you to serve? Can you mentor someone or many others in your life? How can you be bold and share your faith in your circle of influence?
Try one of these this week:
Look to have a mentor and be a mentor for someone in your life. If you don’t have either, pray and ask God to show you who each of these could be.
Who is someone in your life who needs Jesus? I challenge you to share with them this week.
Ask yourself, how can I live on a mission this week? Pray and ask God to show you.
If you’re not sure how to live on mission, to embrace your singleness, and to trust God where you are now, reach out for counseling to help you gain confidence and get help to place your identity firmly placed on the foundation of Jesus.
